Lastest collaboration :: Realty Queen TO

This is the second time now I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Elizabeth from Be Brilliant Design. She is so great to work with and our latest venture was for  Realty Queen TO blog owned by the lovely Aleksandra in Toronto, Canada. Elizabeth created such a gorgeous design and then passed it over to me to do the coding. This involved some blogger wrangling and I really like these projects because Elizabeth challenges me in a good way. The panoramic image of Toronto cityscape was my first hurdle, followed by a little compromise on the background image and that date ribbon! The final result was worth it don’t you think? There is also something very cool about being in Australia, collaborating with a designer in the US for a client in Canada. Now we just have to get Aleksandra blogging.

Eat.Live.Shop – Code Wrangling

Eat Live Shop Blog

While doing the Blogging Your Way eCourse recently I had the good fortune to meet Elizabeth from Be Brilliant A Design Studio. We recently collaborated on the redesign of Eat.Live.Shop – an absolutely gorgeous blog that you really must check out. Elizabeth created such a lovely design, don’t you think? Renee was so great to work with and gave instant feedback which made me wonder if she ever sleeps. What is the time difference between Toronto and Canberra? Her blog is on Blogger which I have used but this was the first all out customisation. There was a lot of code wrangling on my part but I got it to bend to my demands with only a little swearing (under my breath of course).

A Little Blogging Break

Hey friends, I just wanted to let you know I’ll be having a little blogging hiatus as I move over to a new server. Yes, I’m server hopping again! I’ve decided to become a little more serious with my web/blog development and am now a HostGator Reseller. So if you’re interested in some competitive web site hosting and site development then please contact me. I should be at home in my new abode in the next couple of days. Wish me luck and a bug free transition.

A Colour Guide to a Career

Have you seen this? This is the Color Career Counsellor! Apparently I’m a  {drum roll please}… Creator… which is a relief. I’m also:

Nonconforming, Impulsive, Expressive, Romantic, Intuitive, Sensitive, and Emotional
These original types place a high value on aesthetic qualities and have a great need for self-expression. They enjoy working independently, being creative, using their imagination, and constantly learning something new. Fields of interest are art, drama, music, and writing or places where they can express, assemble, or implement creative ideas.

I think the thing that gave me greatest amusement is the type of workplace I’m suited to:

Consider workplaces where you can create and improve beauty and aesthetic qualities. Unstructured, flexible organizations that allow self-expression work best with your free-spirited nature.

… *sigh*. What’s your career?

No Time for Pouncing

It occured to me this morning, being Monday, that I didn’t do a pounce yesterday! So how did I fill my Sunday? I installed a web server and Joomla! CMS and walked through a very well written get started tutorial to create this…. a website for a bogus landscaping company. I still haven’t wrapped my head around it but I think I’m getting there. And the rest of the day, well that was taken up playing Top Spin on the WII. I’m hooked!

Being Gracious

It’s been too long between posts, I know. I spent most of this week trying to get this photo off my phone, Bluetooth has officially eluded me. I know it doesn’t look like it has much to do with being gracious but I will try and explain. I spent Monday and Tuesday in Sydney attending training. The purpose of the trip was to learn and get a little support from the Sydney based trainer. As it turned out she was not at all willing to teach or support and treated me with animosity and contempt for my entire visit. So I’m practising being gracious about the whole turn of events. For all I know she may be having a really bad week. So instead of getting hot headed I’ve decided to be gracious and concede that it’s not all about me! As for the picture, it’s taken from the plane on landing at Canberra airport where my family was waiting for me. It’s so great to be home with people that love me. By the way – Happy Australia Day!

The Cookie Incident of Christmas 2007

The title is thanks to my darling husband. The picture is a scanned box that contained a single cookie. The cookie was a ‘Christmas gift’ from the partners (about 11 of them) of the law firm from which I have just resigned. So here’s what I have deduced… my entire year’s efforts and dedication to this organisation has been recognised by a single serve of sweet baked goods. It’s so insulting that I haven’t stopped laughing yet!

Resignation

I resigned from my job on November 23rd – I don’t hate the place or the people I just didn’t love the work so it was a tough decision to make. Here’s a little tribute to all the Australian Government agencies I have lodged job applications to over the last year. I have applied for no less than 7 jobs in the Public Service – on all occasions I have got an interview, which apparently is a big deal! The application process is convoluted to say the least when you have to write pages addressing selection criteria on things like how you display your personal drive and integrity (for example). For one of these jobs I received a letter saying I was deemed suitable for the role but they didn’t have a role to offer me!!!??? And I’m still waiting on a response to an interview I had in October. Suffice to say I’m not going to work for the Public Service but a small company called Squiz.net – I’m excited!
